Tomato Hornworm Invasion

Funny how quickly you are reminded of why you stopped doing something! About twenty years ago I gave up vegetable gardening due to all the insect and pest problems.

I decided , like many others, to get back into vegetable gardening.
I got a quick reminder last week when some of our tomatoes were almost stripped of not only foliage, but the green tomatoes!

Tomato hornworms were discovered but only after alot of damage was done. Keep your eye out for this one, they are pretty but very , very hungry!

Vacation is Over-It is back to work!

Back to work for both Molly and me! Molly didnt get to go to the beach with us this time, so I know she was glad to get home again.

I had pictures to take for a new book, and she was willing to be the victim.

I know she was happy to get back into our old routine again after staying with my friend.

Locavore-Fresh Fruit time

This week I finally found an orchard that still grows Lodi apples. Years ago, it was pretty popular, one of the first apples of the season, but not it is hard to find.


I like it for making applesauce, very tart and flavorful, and my favorite applesauce.

While I was there I picked up sour cherries. When these cherries are ripe they are very sweet, but many times they are picked early for freezing.

This winter, we will be enjoying cherry pic and applesauce.

Now I just have to process them all!
