10 Dozen is a lot of ears of Corn!

Getting a new freezer has made me a little insane. I must fill it with fresh, locavore produce, even if it kills me.

10 dozen ears of corn to freeze didnt really sound like a lot, but the reality of it was quite different.

I couldnt help but notice how beautiful the corn itself was, the colors, the freshness, the whole package begged to be photographed.

Now freezing that much corn means you have to shuck it, clean it, blanche it, stick in freezing cold water and then cut it off the cob.
This is a nifty trick, I always hated the way corn goes flying everywhere when you cut if off the cob.

Use an old bundt pan, and it catches all the corn , making your job much easier and to my way of thinking, fun!
All the corn is now safely tucked away in the freezer and I know we will be glad this winter, but for now, I am glad it is one more job done!!

Tubbs-The Tired Rottie

By the time we got done with the training pictures, poor Tubbs was getting tired.

Do we have to do another picture?

Can't I just get a nap?

Oh wait, did I hear the treat bag opening?

How to celebrate National Dog Day !

Today is National Dog Day . It is the day to appreciate your dog and let her be the Princess.Let her get dirty.

Let her howl at the moon.

Let her pick out a toy.

Give her a treat.

Take her for a swim.

Let her dig a hole.

Let her go hunting in the shed for rats!

Give her a run in the field.

Let her be King of her mountain.

Let her raid the cooler.

Teach her a new trick.

Take her somewhere new.
What every you do, enjoy your dog today and celebrate the wonderful bond we share.

Fall's Wild Orchids

Most think of spring as the time for wildflowers but late summer sees new wildflowers beginning to bloom.
This is one of my favorites Slender Ladies Tresses, a wild orchid

I love the structure of it, the stairway to heaven look, as it spirals around the stem

When you look closely , you can see each flower is a tiny orchid bloom.

New Puppy- Train Him!

Your life with your new puppy will be so much easier if you train him! Here Tubbs shows that you can learn to sit at the tender age of 9 weeks.

You do need to watch out for those razor sharp puppy teeth!

Here Tubbs is learning to wait till released at the door. This lesson can save the life or your dog and it is never too early to teach it.

Tubbs gets a treat for looking at his owner and waiting patiently!
Good Dog, Tubbs!

Friends at the Seashore

I love old photos! Both of these pictures is of the same group of women enjoying the beach. I dont think they needed to worry too much about sunburn in those days!

Note they had a guy that brought them the wine and food!

School Days

At Shutter Sisters today, they are talking about our children heading back to school.

It has been a long time since my boys had their first day of school. Each year it seemed like it rained. Often they got to play with their bubbles while they waited for the bus to come.

Another pastime waiting for the bus was to play with the kittens.

Too Many Cherry Tomatoes? Dehydrate!

Dehydrating is a great way to preserve cherry tomatoes.
If you have an abundance and most of us do right now, give dehyrating a try.

If the tomotoes are big I slice them into three slices, but othewise they are halved.

Put them in the dehydrator and let them dry!

The Eyes of Love!

Just look in the eyes of the one you love. You can see it.
Your love is reflected right back at you.
Today take a moment and look deep into the eyes of love.

Summertime and the living is easy!

It looks inviting doesn't it? A nice place in the shade, away from the heat of the sun . A place to relax and contemplate the comic oneness of it all!

Sitting down in the vegetable garden also seems like a good thing to do .

The chairs are just begging for someone to park themselves in them.

A stroll down the shady path to enjoy the fruits of one's labor , also inviting.
But notice, no one is here. This time of year the living is not easy, there is too much to do!
Weeding, canning, freezing, weeding, dehydrating, the list goes on and on.
So it is summertime, but sometimes it doesnt seem like the living is easy!
